No cigar

I just sent 16.5 pages to my chair. It's (obviously) not quite 20 but I realized that I need to go back and read three articles before I can continue. It's bad bad bad writing, but at least it's a start, right?

This whole dissertating thing is hard, huh?

Well, you got most of it done, and you realized what else you need to do (next actions). That sounds like progress to me!

You can't revise if you don't have anything written. 16.5 pages in a few days is definitely worth patting yourself on the back for.

Thanks Suzanne. I think I'm starting over, but I'm trying to realize that I probably needed to write the wrong stuff before I figured out what the right stuff was.

I'm having a bit of a tough day, though. I woke up with a cold (which I just can't afford this week) and the anti-inflammatories that I started today (hip injury) are making my stomach upset. It's just tough to concentrate on feminist rhetorical theory when I just want to get back into bed. So I appreciate the cyber-support

Oh, poor Abby. Did I tell you about how I got mono right when I started my diss, and had to take 4 months off my research? But look where I am now. What I mean to say is that your health takes priority. Take care of yourself and good luck!

Mono?! Oh, that's AWFUL! Thanks for putting this into perspective. At least I don't have mono. I've been taking zinc and drinking lots of water, so this cold is not long for this world. Today, it's 20 below with windchill so I'm staying in, reading one more article, and writing, writing, writing.

I hope your work is going well.

Abby, nice job cranking out those pages! My first drafts have generally been awful. The good stuff happens during the revising process, for sure.

Rest up and feel better!

Thanks for the encouragement, all. I started over today and wrote almost fourteen pages in one day. It's clearly MUCH better than the first draft. I'm planning to finish the draft (20 pages or so -- not a full chapter, obviously) tomorrow after teaching so I'm in a pretty decent place. Plus, as a reward, I just watched Little Miss Sunshine (finally) and, have to say, kind of loved it.
