The Advisor issue

So, there are two ways to track progress- what you are actually getting done and what your advisor thinks you should be getting done. Or where they think you should be. I guess the sticking point there is, usually, you're not as smart as they are yet, so you probably won't make progress according to their schedule. How in the heck do you rectify that? I'm not where he thinks I should be, that point is probably 2 months off. Any suggestions???

You talk smack about them behind their back. That's the best way I found for dealing with my adviser. I love him like an academic brother, but that human being frustrated the hell out of me sometimes. Of course, it was only fair. B/c I know I did the same to him.

For realz, tho, I'd say this to you: Remember that the diss is YOUR project. Stay on top of your shit and never stagnate. It's not such a bad thing to have a director who is pushing hard at the reins.
